Getting the Most out of Therapy
As a clinician, I am focused on helping my clients get the most out of the time they spend with me in therapy. The fact is, one hour per week, or in some cases one hour every two weeks, compared to the total amount of hours a week holds is not very much time. To help you get the most out of therapy, here are some tips to keep in mind:
*Schedule therapy at a good time: This can be literal to work to schedule at a time that is best to fit your schedule, or a little more metaphorical meaning to schedule your appointment that is a good time for you to be able to process, think and discuss.
*Talk: This may seem like a simple tip, but most people have difficulty talking in sessions. There does not always have to be some overwhelming, stressful event every session, discussions in therapy can be about anything, even discussions about therapy itself. All that information helps us clinicians to get a full idea of you as a person.
*Plan: Develop a plan with your therapist, and stick to it. If there are obstacles or stumbling blocks along the way, that is ok. Talk to your clinician about it and find a way to work around it.
Hope these tips can help!
