3 Myths about Therapy
Many people have questions when they start therapy, and most questions surround myths that have been portrayed in movies, TV or rumors they have heard of.
One myth is that therapists all have a "couch" that you have to lay on. Therapists may have a couch in their office but it is always your choice on how you utilize that piece of furniture. We want you to be comfortable to be able to talk openly and honest.
Another myth is that you may be that person who says something so outlandish that you will "shock" the therapist. Most therapists with experience have heard and seen a lot of things already, and it is unlikely for that to occur. We are here to help and sometimes the more honest you are the better we are able to do that.
The third myth is that therapy is for people who are weak. Most times it takes a large amount of strength to admit your shortcomings and hard work to improve yourself. Therapy can be for anyone at any point in their life if they are experiencing issues that need to be addressed and resolved.
Hopefully this helps to dispel some myths about therapy and if your thinking about making an appointment, please pick up the phone. We are here to help.
